Hashtag # on YouTube Videos
Why Use a Hashtag in YouTube Video Descriptions
Hashtags are a word or phrase that are prfixed with the # symbol. By using a keyword hashtag within your YouTube descriptions you are enabling people to click on that hashtag to find other posts that contain that particular hashtag. The other great thing about a hashtag is that is is indexed by the social networks. You can also use Google to search for a particular hashtag, thereby making you ever more discoverable. When you create a hashtag, remember no spaces between words.
Why Create a Custom Hashtag
On my YouTube Knotting Channel (Knotting Knots) I created the hashtag #LetsGetKnotting (click on the hashtag to see a Google Result) As you will see from the image below, the hashtag is the 10th most searched for item on my channel. At the time of writing this, I have: 23,000 Subscribers and 4 Million Views.

Adding Hashtags to YouTube Description
Adding hashtags to your video description could not be easier. Whenever you add a #HashTag in the description of your video, You will see it just under your video when it has been published, as per the picture below.
Not only does the clickable hashtag appear just below the video, it is also a clickable link in your YouTube Video description.
How Many Hashtags to Use in a YouTube Video Description
I really do not know if there is a maximum amount of hashtags that you can use in your description, but I have always tended to use three or less. I do however use the hashtag #LetsGetKnotting on every video! I have since found, that if you do more than three, only three show just below the video. I have also found that if you put a hashtag in the video title, then no hashtags appear below the vidoe??? Maybe this is just me and you need to experiment a little with your hashtags.
In Video Hashtags
Another thing that I did from a very early stage was to incorporate an animated #LetsGetKnotting hashtag at certain times in my videos. Sadly they are not clickable, but they do remind a view that by using #letsgetknotting they will find more knotting information.
