The Geiger Counter is named after Hans Geiger, who was a German Scientist who from what I have read, specialised in the study of Radiation. The Geiger Counter is a device that can detect and register radiation leaks, the device gives a visual display of the amount of radiation present and the familiar sound. Admittedly, the indication of a radiation leak is a very serious thing, the sound that the device emits can be a rather pleasing and relaxing sound to the listener.
