Tumble Dryer Old
Tumble Dryer Old Sound Effect
For the engineer, this may be a sound effect too far! Maybe for the engineer the mechanical sound of a tumble dryer on it’s last legs makes them want to reach for their tool bag? However, the constant rumbling sound of a tumble dryer, may for some people be the perfect background sound to help them to Relax.
Worn Out Bearing Sound Effect
The reason for the rumbling sound is that this particular tumble dryer has a main bearing that is on its way out. This particular tumble dryer is not going to last much longer, so I thought it would be good to record it’s last rumblings on my trust Zoom H1n. So this now make me look forward to the day that it stops altogether, then I will be able to record the sound of a brand new tumble dryer. So if you are an engineer, then maybe this is not the best sound for you to fall asleep to.
Mechanical Sound to Help Baby to Fall Asleep Fast
How often do you load up the car, putting your baby safely on the back seat. You then start driving and within minutes you look into your rear view mirror, only to find that your baby is fast asleep. You then wish that this would work when it is your babies bed time. Well, we can not recreate the vibration of that car that your baby is experiencing, but recreating a good “white noise” mechanical sound could help you to get your baby to sleep. Many parents who use sounds to help their baby to fall asleep and stay asleep, often say that a good mechanical sound does the trick.
On this site in the Sound and Vision Index or on YouTube @MonotonyTV there is a good selection of sounds that you can test on your baby.
Finding the Right Sound to Help Your Baby to Fall Asleep
The first thing that you need to do is test different sounds on your baby, go to the links above and test some of those sounds on your baby. Don’t be afraid to play sounds that seem ridiculous or too harsh to what you like, remember, the sound is for them. Whilst your baby is awake, play a few different sounds to them and watch their reaction. If they hate a sound, just discard it and move onto the next sound. Once you have a selection of sounds that you think might work, then test these sounds again when your baby is tired. You will be able to gauge from their reaction if the sound is helping them to relax and fall asleep. You just never know, the sound of an old clapped out tumble dryer could be the sound that you are after for your baby.
Now that you have your chosen sound, ONLY play it when it is bed time of your baby is showing signs of being tired. You are now training them to associate a certain sound to help them to relax and sleep. Once your have found your baby’s sleep sound, then let them fall asleep to that sound, but don’t stop the sound when they are asleep. By playing the sound continuously, you are using the sound to drown out any unwanted sounds that could startle and wake your baby up. Also, should your baby wake up, they will feel comforted by a familiar sound and fell back to sleep again. Another good thing about finding the right sound for your baby to fall asleep to, is that YOU too at long last might get some much need sleep!
